A Japanese tile game
Mahjong games are contested between 4 players. The aim is to build a complete hand consisting of (usually) four sets of three identical tiles or three consecutive numbers in the same suit, and a pair.
How much will your hand score?
There are many different types of mahjong hand you can build. Scores range from 1000 points for the least valuable hands to 32000 points or more for the very rarest.
Risk and reward
In riichi mahjong you can place a 1000-point bet if you’re one tile away from completing your hand in order to gain point bonuses if you win. But be careful – once you “riichi” your hand is locked in, and if you discard the tile an opponent needs to win, their score comes out of your points…
